1.6 IDI intakes
« on: July 20, 2013, 10:42:08 am »
What're you IDI guys using for intakes? The OE runner intake that connects is falling apart on my 1.6TD and am winding if anyone had a good idea on what to run instead. I was looking for a Mandela bent pipe to fit in the same spot with a barn on not for the PCV to run into and just stick a come filter in the other end. Thoughts, opinions, links?

Cheers,
Jordan

I'm using "ceet" aviation ducting.

I went with 3" but I also modified my airbox a bit to fit that size.

I was hoping to find a more permanent solution. The ones from the yards will be just as bad.

That flex pipe is a good idea, I'd have to get
creative on the PCV port

They are available on ebay, in silicone, made by one of the members here. If you've got the skills to do it, I guess you could also buy a couple mandrel bends and cut and weld them to make that shape, then use a regular straight silicone coupler to connect it to the turbo.

Got a link? All I'm coming up with is the cold side turbo to manifold silicone pieces.

I think GEE BEE or some name like that had them for sale in the clasifieds,.. then sold the mold to someone who sells them on ebay.
You might be able to find the post and seller on your own
if someone can't come up with the ebay seller's name.
$65 or something like that, but they are silicone,.. wish they had left the blowoff port off, they might have fixed that by now.

You can get rubber DWV elbows (45's, 90's and couplers) and black ABS pipe from Home Depot. They sell short (I think 3') sections of DWV pipe (drain waste vent) pipe so you don't have to get a 20 footer. It's all in the same aisle in plumbing. 3" should work but I'm not sure. The rubber elbows usually come with band clamps.

This will work for the "suction" side of the  turbo.. but between turbo and intake manifold it will not.

I have been down that road many times.. and nothing but silicone will do.

Good to know, I'm looking for the suction side.

That's the way I understood it ;D
As 8V said, it's not gonna work on the pressure side

The PO on my bus used that (DWV stuff) with a cone filter and it worked fine.
I'm building a huge filter housing and will figure something else out, but it should work for you and is pretty cheap.
