Did I bend valves? (I'm an idiot)

So while assembling the ahu in a mk3, I didn't completely have my head in the game... I had the bottom end at tdc... The cam caps were all loose, and I started to torque them down without taking notice of what position the cam was in. Result: I tightened the caps, pushing valves into pistons. I didn't torque them to 400 ft-lbs or anything, but enough to make me nervous. So obviously I won't know till I try to start it, but what do you guys think? Just hoping someone can set me at ease...

Since you state bottom end was at tdc cylinders 1&4 are the only ones that could have bent valves if the engine was not turned.
I would remove cam and do a leakdown test.

replace lifter and valves that hit... to pop the valve head off while driving will cost you head, injector, piston, possible rod... vs a valve or 2 now...
even if they look straight.. 7mm hardened steam on valve.. a stresser in it that you annot see can allow it to fail.. simple.. if it hit replace it

Well, that's exactly what I needed to know... guess I'll be pulling the head tonight

i guess id rather put a few hours and a couple more bucks(probably what 100 until u buy 2 valves 2 lifters and a head gasket?) into it than to find out down the road that i did some serious damage
but, was there anything holding the piston in place? it may have just pushed down out of the way as you tightened it right?

ll my experiance..
1.6na... free engine.. 8k later.. pop.. you could see in past life it hit piston via other pistons.. used head/rod/piston cheap easy to find.. look for tdi parts...
16v 2.0 i sell head via portex in 01.. i do valve job and pack/ship.. not 1st head ive ever shipped.. it dropped #8 intake valve thru piston.. all i can figure is shipper dropped that head on that corner, tweeked a valve.. and 2 weeks later i buying new engine..

those 7mm stems...
why i say change the ones you think hit.. may work for now.. but grenade pin pulled...

There was nothing holding it, but I'd imagine you could push pretty hard on a piston when it's at tdc and not move it.

On to the next question... I just had my injectors tested, and found that I have a bad one. There's a local guy parting out an 02 golf... are ahu and alh injectors interchangeable?
So far this is not turning out to be my day.

AHU and ALH injectors are the same.

The alh injectors have two different stock nozzle sizes and injection pumps depending on if the car was an automatic or manual trans. Not sure of the ahu.
