Help 1.9TD running rough
« on: March 09, 2006, 01:00:42 pm »
Hey guys just fyi this is going to be half question and half rant because im very pissed right now, last wensday I bought a 95 golf diesel and that needed some body work and a heater core. So last weekend i put the new heater core in and all seemed ok, went for a little drive and noticed the smell of burning antifreez (which I had not noticed when driving the car home in the first place) so I pull over and notice the metal coolant line is spewing coolent like crazy. At this point im about 2km from my house so I add some coolant and drive it home real easy. now the car has sit for a couple of days and the only thing I did to it was put a new oil line to the turbo. So yesterday I got the new coolant line (170$) put it on and replaced all the lost coolant.  Now today when I went to start it was running very rought and smoking quite a bit(blue). So what do you guys think is it possible I cooked the engine in it that quik?
I'm compleatly lost here guys so help me out.

Hard to say... how much did you drive it today. IE, did it get fulkly warmed up?

Just wondering if you may have disconnected the glow plugs when you replaced the ($%#$) coolant pipe, and so it's running poorly and smoking on startup. Incomplete combustion can make blue smoke.

Did the car overheat, or just lose a lot a lot of coolant?

The car lost quite a bit of coolant but and the heat guage went to about 2/3 at one point.
I ran the car for a couple maybe 10 minutes today long enough for it to warm up and it was still smoking when i shut it off, although it seemed like it might have been smoking a bit less, but that could have just been me.
as for the glow plugs i dident unhook them so i doubt there the problem.

Hard to diagnose by proxy. Sounds like it it could have overheated badly, or then again it could be something simple like a bad injector.

Didn't you JUST buy the car? Could you bring it back to teh shop you bought it from and have them take a look?
