I blame this all on the high pressure pump failures. From what I read, VW is doing their best to keep that issue well under wraps so as not to taint the diesel image. Basically they are covering pump failures outside of warranty, even if the owner admits to putting gas in their diesel.

I can't understand people being mad at a dealership for not honouring warranty when they mistakenly filled up with gasoline. Doesn't anyone take responsibility for their actions anymore?

all i gotta say is that going to be crappy as hell to fill up with the over flowed high foam lsdf they sell...

Strange as it may seem there is a sticker at the fuel entry point that generally says something about diesel only isn't there?   And how about the one on the dash next to the little icon that looks like a fuel pump.  Don't these mean anything to those pumping.

Here in Oregon we are to lame to be back there dousing ourselves with either gas or diesel so we have to let the "properly trained employees" do it.  And pay the extra in a gallon as well.  I have had several guys/ gals double check on the fuel I specify.  I caught one last week doing a double check at the pump.  Grabbing this handle then that one.  Finally he came back and asked that was DIESEL correct sir?  Yes, Green handle dude.  Maybe that is the way I will define my choice in the future.   

Anyone know where I can get a new stick on Diesel fuel only sticker for the fuel inlet?  That will help as well.  After 32 years it went away with the paint job redo.

10-20 min for 8 gal baby... those statons would hate me.... but id be making him work for his added per gal fee...

I thought you fixed that poor entry on the fuel tank.  Something with tight turn of the pipes or super low clearance.

The last 3 rigs to come in the shop after an accidental gas fill all had the same story, 'filled with gasoline, made it a block and a half out  of the station, the fuel filter stopped up, and the car quietly turned off.'
 pump out, new filter, no problem. 

Are VW the only ones supplying fuel filters that  don't gel up when exposed to  too much gasoline?



On My Caddy, I'd abandoned the factory filler for a larger tank under the bed.  Didn't think to tell my housemate when he borrowed the car.  Poor SOB pumped 10 gallons straight on the ground before someone yelled at him.

back in the 80s they made a aluminum 28ish gal tank for a caddy... i know a horder with a new one... it replaced the original tank with it...

I see where VW is thinking about replacing diesel engines with gassers here in the states because those owning them can't seem to remember to put the correct fuel in them.  Is it time for a different sized or shaped nozzle for diesels?  That way consumer stupid folks won't get confused.

I was told that U-Haul eliminated their fleet of diesel vehicles specifically because people kept putting gas in them and it was becoming too much of an issue to deal with. They will not rent you a diesel moving truck anymore, even the really big one is gas (and gets absolutely horrible mileage and has no torque, because it's gas).

Apparently in Canada they still rent you the diesel ones, maybe Canadians are better about this.

The only time I drove my diesel into the U.S. I made 1 fuel stop.   Station had the diesel pump off to the side where all the transports filled up, so it was 3 rigs and my golf.   Got some strange looks when I pulled up to the pump.   

I had a friend whose brother-in-law put diesel into his Suzuki dirt bike and couldn't figure out why it quit running.   When asked where he filled it up he just pointed to the diesel tank they used for their farm equipment.  To him fuel was fuel.

I've had a number of people run up to me trying to stop me from putting diesel in my car.

I think I will stick with the two extra wheels, a covered seating area and half the MPGs.  Granted it won't do the trails the same but can you really seat four on that bike like my Rabbit?
 

Nice machine otherwise,  Glad they didn't go turbine on the design.
