Boost response?

What can I do besides a DP can I do to get more boost response? I checked on the BatMoWheel and its not available for these turbos. Is there another wheel or will porting help? Perhaps a bearing change to like ceramic ball bearings or something? I am not trying to get a bigger fancier turbo, as the stock one makes more than enough boost for my application.
And I did eliminate the overboost thing on the intake. I already have a 2.5" exhaust straight pipe, and the pump has been tuned very well, and the timing is correct. But this thing builds boost like crap. I am only asking for 20 lbs max, but only 15 for now. The biggest problem is after I shift it doesn't get back into boost, it just goes to about 5 psi and takes forever to get to 10 psi then after that it gets to 15 pretty quick which is where its set. By the time I get to 10 I am about 4000 rpm so I have a very narrow band of boost to 15 lbs and I only get 15 for about 500 rpms.

Well what turbo on what engine are talking about here? You're not giving any info; we don't know what you need if you don't tell us what you have!

Its the car in my signature area. It is an 85' Jetta TD with 1.6L. I don't know what turbo it is, except that it is factory.

I'm using a 5.99 air compressor regulator on mine it works fantactic got it dialed in at a smooth 18 psi max on my mtdi.

its easy to tell, look at the compressor a t3 will say airesearch or garrett on it and also has a large rubber hose leading to the wastegate can, and a k24 will have a triangle with 3 k's in it and it has a metal line with a banjo bolt that leads to the wastegate, the waste gate on a k24 has a bunch of fins like a honey comb.
where is your timing set? how much have you increased fueling? what are you using to control boost?

If the timing and fuel are all stock and running to spec, I'd say you might have a concern with either your wastegate being stuck open or improperly seating, or your turbo may be wearing out; how many miles are on the engine? Are you hearing a hissing noise under boost from around the turbo area?
Failing that, you might have a concern with fueling; is your pump LDA working to spec, as well as the boost signal line not being worn out? I know you said the pump as tuned and fuel timing is to spec, but were these confirmed before posting?
Also you mentioned you fixed your manifold over-boost concern; could you describe how you did this?

Mine does this also. 81 NA-T with t3 2.5dp as well. I believe my problem is a bypassing/early opening waste gate due to the fact with it hooked up I can only pull about 6 psi up to 4500. With it unhooked it goes to 12+. I can hear it howling thru the firewall above 6 with the waste gate unhooked, not so with it hooked up. Same now with the turbo pump just reaches it faster. My fuel limits max boost so drivability is manageable.

fueling heavily effects spool up times, and stock fueling makes for very very slow spooling.

It is a K24 turbo. I am not sure how much the fueling has been increased, but it rolls coal quite well, so essentially enough that it doesn't burn it all. The governor essentially doesn't exist now either. My boost controller is Boost Valve for TDI - G2 Series BoostValve kit for VW VNT TDI. The timing was set using some of the high end equipment that reads fuel pulse like a spark pulse and with an EGT gauge. The turbo is not leaking boost. Boost signal line is brand new silicon.
I am not sure of the mileage. But its a good bit being an '85. So if I was to get the turbo rebuilt who is reputable? Would it be worth getting some of the fancier stuff done to it, like porting? I am going to tighten down the wastegate and see if that does anything.

k24's and almost all kkk turbos are notorious for having a stuck/sticky waste gate. that could be your problem, try running in the set screw on the wastegate actuator. that will push it closed, then maybe u can try spraying some type of lube into the wastegate to help get it working properly again.

U can spray it in the wastegate can where the boost line goes. And worst case ull just have to run it the whole way shut and leave it haha

OK. I closed the wastegate completely I think (righty tighty I am pretty sure). I did not get to spraying anything in there, maybe later. But I am gonna test it closed and see what happens.
