new mechanical tdi on road!!
« on: August 04, 2004, 07:51:10 am »
after a big probleme on my aaz passat ( crankcase beraring broken!) i decide to rebuilt an ahu engine in mechanical setup.

the engine was reserved to make a big hp engine but now we need a car...

evry part are original one on the ahu, only the diesel pump.
the diesel pump was an home made one!
the body come from an aaz engine, the lda from a land rover,(my original pump aaz don't have it!! ).
the head , came plate, spring, from the tdi.
the static timing is about 0.70-0.75mm
the engine take a long time to start, but it finaly start!
idle an max fueling was very bad, then i had to tune a lot!!
after a hours the engine was ok, good idle and the max fueling seems to be ok.
i was very surprise because , the pump is a realy cheap pump, all the part of this pump com from the back of my garage under a lot of sort of car part.

now , today after a litle drive, i think i have to tune a better max fueling, and a slow idle.

there is no intercooler, but come soon.
if i will get satisfaction of this engine, it will have bigger  injectors!

Nice!  I was wondering on the status of your mechanical TDI project.  This is something that I plan to do in the future as well, keep us updated on the progress!

Good work, especially on your "homemade" pump!

hi,
i make some litle thing on this mdi ( mechanical direct injected  :D )
first i chek boost pressure: 0.5bar  :?  not  good!
then a little tune on idle srew and max fueling, but i don't have enough time! the lda is too soft, and at idle and the little air pressure is in action!!
so i can tune the max fueling at a good value today!
no probleme i don't have the intercooler , so no power for the moment! and no smog!

next steep: lda tune, max fueling, idle, boost.
in a two week (may be before!): intercooler

hello caddy
why did you choose 0.70 or 0.75 as static timing?
i will soon start my rover montego pump tdi, and didn't know what numbers to use.
are these numbers common for tdi engines?

is the original static timming for a tdi.
so we can try other timming , but we don't have dyno right now...
