1981 Rabbit Truck Diesel LX
Motor has 201K with an unknown history.
Replaced all 4 glow plugs
Used a primer bulb to pull fuel through the filter into the injection pump
Pops off INSTANTLY but sounds like it's running on 1 cylinder.
Cracking each injector line yields spraying diesel
cracking line 4 damn makes the motor shut off. All others have minimal effect.
applying the throttle does little to change it.
motor sounds like it has excellent compression.
My guesses...something is stuck in the injection pump, injectors are clogged or???

Nevermind. Should have put ATF in the pump in the first place to free things up.
I poured it in there...Walked away...came back after 10 minutes. Runs like a singer! Damn I love an IDI
Thanks,
Jason

I've used Diesel Purge many times and never really noticed a difference. The fluid did get a little dirty as it was being returned to the bottle, but nothing to write home about.
From what I've read, it's just diesel and solvents. I have a feeling a mixture of ATF and diesel would do the same thing. In Jason's case, straight ATF loosened up the internals.

Of the different chemicals I've tried, Sea Foam has made the most difference- run it through the injection pump and pour some in the intake... but in a diesel be very careful not to put too much, just a fine mist in a diesel. In a gas engine you can spray a lot in there though.

Really no reason to put it through the intake though is there? There is no air/fuel mixture passing through the intake ports, or over the intake valves. The intake tract should be clean as a whistle.
Through the fuel system would clean everything diesel related as it burns it. Is it safe to run them on 100% seafoam?

I've used atf, it works but it's full of additives and seal conditioners. Every time I've used diesel purge it was dramatic how quiet the motor ran on it.
I run there diesel additive with a little 2 cycle oil too. My 2c.

atf soaks for a day or two at a time has brought back more than one vehicle in my experience. brought back 2 vehicles after a bad batch of wvo, and has helped more than one gummed up pump left on the shelf dry, start to work.
never had diesel purge or diesel kleen, etc. do what atf does.
i eventually break every pump down that i want to use as a daily driver and was surprised to see how much flaky and muddy crap can be inside the pump even after a pump appears to be working after an atf soak.

I had a 300k pump that sat tilted on a shelf half full of old fuel for two years, you could see the crooked rust and crud line with the top off. I put it back in service, diesel purge and my usual mix. Resealed it after a thousand miles or so, ran it for 40 or 50k. Advance was never right, but it ran daily. That and the mpg increase and idle improvement on old Mercedes won me on DP. Any port in the storm though...
