Hey guys,
Long time, no see...
I have the best exhaust I could possibly make, and it will fit a Mk2 T3 Turbo Diesel Jetta.
EVERYTHING is stainless. All stainless components, and TIG welded.
I built this in 2008, ran it for 10k miles, and then scrapped the Jetta and got into a caddy. Since then, it has been sitting in my laundry room.
Parts list:
-ATP T3 (vw) TO 3" v-Band flange
-3" Stainless V-band flanges (qty. 3), 2.5" Stainless v-band (1x)
-3" Stainless (all stainless, not just the weave) flex coupling
-304SS tubing, lots
-Techtonics Stainless 2.5" over axle pipe w/ resonator. This is the only 'muffler' it is otherwise straight pipe.
-Techtonics SS VW hanger kit, complete. That's so the exhaust hangs off of stock hangers.
It is a full 3" mandrel bent DP with a flex joint at the bottom, and then a (really heavy) 3" stick running down the tunnel. After that, it reduces to 2.5 for the TT over axle pipe, and then goes out through a turndown behind the rear wheel. (The turndown was placed so that it scrapes speed bumps, and puts black spots on the ground when you stab the smoke pedal. A first gear launch paints a back stripe down the parking lot. )V-Bands in all the convenient places, and you can put this whole thing in and out without any major disassembly of the car. This is a completely bolt in affair. No mods at all. It hangs off of stock exhaust hangers. I could pop the DP off in 5-7 minutes with a small 11mm ratchet. Makes servicing the back of the engine real easy.
I really wish I had a video of the sound, but it is awesome. not too loud, but very present. Nice turbo sound, and quiet idle.
This dropped my EGT's ~200 (WOT) and the EGT also cooled down MUCH more quickly. No heat soak in the exhaust. (Using a spruce probe in the manifold)
I have over $1100 in it,
Will sell for $800 + shipping.
(shipping from Orlando, Fl)
I will consider trades. (Mk1 caddy parts, Giles pump, wheels, ?)
I'll try to keep an eye on this, but if you like, you can email me directly at [Brad{@}pinch128.com]
Thanks-
Brad
Bump for a good looking exhaust!!
How did it sound with the resonator?
It was amazing and perfect.
Virtually silent at idle, except for a little whistle,
and then lots of turbo whine over a throaty diesel note.
I should have gotten a video of it.
So the resonator is a Techtonics unit i assume?
Yeah, the res is whoever TT uses, cause I bought the complete SS over axle pipe from them (along with a hanger kit)
I just checked to ensure it was a SS resonator, and then proceeded to weld V-Bands on. (well, my buddy proceeded to TIG them on, that is..)
My whole kick with this exhaust is I wanted something that functioned well, was completely mandrel bent and completely stainless. I know that at ~1300F, you are being pretty hard on mild steel, and I wanted something that would sound great and last forever. Also, I live in Florida, a harsh climate.
If you ever saw Passenger Performance's cat back systems, they were the inspiration. At the time I was like " Crap! $1000 bucks? Sheesh, I could build that myself for $xxx.xx......." Fast forward a year, and I have over a grand in an exhaust system for my $2500 car. Go figure... I was going to attempt to use it when I put the turbo diesel in my Caddy, but the DP is not going to work right, and I want to do a dump before the rear wheel, so almost all of this is useless to me on that chassis. Also, hanger locations fit a Mk2 Jetta perfect. Sell this, and build another for the truck, if I keep her.
Thanks!
