I think its kinda hard to grow Non GMO corn for example, because the 90 billion nearby GMO plants will cross fertilize it.

Understood, butif you plant more than 50 feet away from a field you should have no issues. I raise a sweet corn that does excellent in colder weather called TEMPTATION. It says if you plant 50 feet or stagger the planting 2 weeks away from the neighbors or the other corn in your garden it will not cross. If you plant right at the same time or maturity rate of the field corn it will still have sweet corn properties, but it will be more starchy tasting.

I bet that most of the destitute live in cities. The same as for most people on this forum.
They have no way to grow crops of significance. Going off topic, chemical fertilizers and
hybridization have brought up the crop yields at least 3x in the past 30 years.  How could
you miss knowing that.

Not trying to get in a pissing contest, just saying.

Hybrids and petroleum based fertilizers have raised the yields on tractor plowed monocrops sure but you need to look at the energy input and output of a given system. Look into biointensive growing methods they get much closer to peak output organically and produce many many more calories per acre than commercial agriculture.

I live in the city/suburbs on a 3200sq' lot and manage to raise a good deal of food not a huge amount but I think in some of the trials people have managed to raise enough food for an individual on 1000sq'? It may have been 2000?

Also one needs to look at the amount of household income Americans spend on food, it is ridiculously low around 10%, or food is cheap in this country if you like subsidized monocrops and processed crap.

lovinthedeez. Do you get heirloom seeds or do you just sell the finished products? I will be putting my garden in soon and will need seeds, why not buy them from someone running a diesel car on a forum I am a member of ?

I am not too hog wild on this but I do pay attention. My 11 year old when born was raised on soy based baby formula, big name brand, and from what I can tell they are 100% GMO based soy. She has weight issues that are slow to go away even with us giving her good food now. Our 7 year old never had any formula and has no weight issues to date. I think it messes with the digestive tract so much that it should be illegal for formula mfg, but that is just my opinion. I realize genetics and many other things come into play, but I think I will be doing good to continue to have more good food for them either way.
