whats the difference between the NA and the TD heads?

At least in the 1.6 TD heads, I understand that the valves are different (sodium filled valves for the TD) and that the head casting itself is reportedly made of a different alloy.  

I believe there was some speculation a while back whether any of the special alloy remains now that some remanufacturers use the same castings for both apps.

You might check the archives here though... Others have documented this.

Some say 1.6TD heads are made of aluminium, others say stainless steel...  :roll:  I don't know..

could i use a na head on a beater TD motor? its an eco motor and i would just like to get it running.

it probably be ok,,,just go solid to solid,,or hyd to hyd. lifters,,,,i do know td prechambers are bigger than na,,,,i had a junk  td head, ,,valves werent sodium,,,and it was an 86jetta td ,removed an exh valve cut it,,threw it inwater,,no reaction,,not sodium filled,,,,,,that was a deal though,,, inj.pump/head complete with manifolds+turbo,,,,camwas wasted/broken,,,just tookhead off cause it was easier inyard,,theydidnt charge a core charge,,,yea imstillrunnin that turbo,,,,,,,,,got all those goodies for 125,,theydidnt know what theyhad,,,,,,,,,,,,,
