first year for 1.9TD
« on: March 01, 2006, 01:05:58 am »
Hi  I need to know the first year that VW imported the 1.9TD into the US.

It's a DMV thing I have to show that the engine I put into my 1986 Samurai is as new or newer than 1986. I believe that the 1.9TD was first brought in around 1990+  but I may be wrong. <laugh>

Thanks

Chuck

VW never imported the 1.9TD into the US.

However, IIRC, it was first debuted in Canada in 1993.
1986 Volkswagen Golf | 1.6L NA diesel | 5spd manual | Deep Cosmic Blue (LE5C) | aack, it's a parts car, now, too!
1992 Mazda Miata | 1.6L DOHC gasser | 5spd manual | Classic Red (SU)

Yup, 1993 was when the Mk3 showed up with the 1.9TD.

are they smart enough to not know it's an 'A2 jetta 1986 1.6L TD'?
or an industrial engine?

Well DR.  I'm not sure but I took it in today and they looked -and looked- and looked went on the internet could not fine numbers where VW says theyr are numbers  found other numbers  scrached head  and faild me.

Aperently the lack of information is tantamount to bad information in their eyes.

I have no idea what it is  or where it came from  I bought it with an auto tranny attached ( Quantum)  on a hoist poised to go into said Quantum
But the PO got sick ( big C )  and sold off everything.

I asked examiners " what if someone bought a replacement block from VW  what numbers would show up if any?

Thay said hey go fine out on your own but in the meen time you fail.

SO I have some casting numbers on the block if anyone knows what they meen please Email me directly ( everyone can see these replies <groan>)

Numbers on upper front IP side # 0J93  and lower middle same side (IP)

028103 021

If it is an industrial engine oh well there are 49 other states I can sell it to.

question would an Industrial engine have the same rpm ranges or would it have a reprofiled Cam for a stedy rpm range?

Thanks  from the republic of Kalifornia

Chuck
