k14 turbo on a TDI??
« on: September 21, 2012, 11:13:28 am »
Hello! I was wondering if I could put my k14 turbo from my TD onto my tdi? To save time in building a new downpipe, and also the k14 has a larger intake opening. I don't see the problem with it. But what do you guys think? I won't be running EGR, ill be blocking it off.

Is this an electronic TDI still? or mechanical? It will need a tune to notice any difference in power I am thinking.

A k14 was recommended to me for my M-TDI build, so apparently it is a good idea. ;) They guy that told me has used them on a few M-TDI swaps.. loves them.

Seems like it would be too small to be worthwhile...here is a thread I found about it http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=329905

They are a step up from the K03.  There's a little more lag but noticeably more power for similar boost.  The increase in power becomes progressively more noticeable over 10 psi of boost.  The K14 is also a more robust unit with a thicker shaft and better bearing support.  If going with a K14, be sure to get one from the AAZ and not from a 1.6ECO motor as the AAZ version has a larger compressor wheel.  You can tell the difference externally by the fact that the AAZ version has 4 bolts holding the center section to the turbine housing instead of 6 with the 1.6ECO version.

It works very well too. I will post up dyno slips once it is dyno'd, but estimates are around 180 hp/300 ft lbs since my Sachs VR6 clutch doesn't hold well when you get into it on the highway.

I'm not a fan of vnt turbos simply because wg turbos are more simple and still perform very well.  So it's cool to see someone using one

I share the same sentiments. I have never had to free up a waste gate, unlike every mk4 ALH tdi that I have come across...

I've had to free up several wastegates.

To free stuck vanes on a VNT all you have to do is take it on a cruise on the freeway or up an extended grade.  My mechanical control is smooth as silk after a couple years of use.  I was working on it today and checked the vanes and they have absolutely no resistance to them.

Take it on a cruise. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Actually no sorry the ones I have dealt with were beyond an Italian tune up. Sea foam poured down the egr passage into the hot side works a treat though! Actually I love the GT2052W because of the simplicity of my system. The tune I am running eliminates the N75 and the MAF, I am running a home made MBC.
