So,  for starters, forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere.  I have a '91 NA Jetta.  It has a leaking pump.  It has the LDA aneroid style altitude compensator on top.  It also has some sort of load sensing solenoid, that requires 12V, on the front.  My replacement pump that I intend to use while the other gets resealed does not have this.  It also doesn't have provisions for the additional vacuum line that the OG pump does.  My question is:

Can I just plug off the vacuum lines and secure the 12V wire and the pump/engine will run fine?

Any VW diesel pump from 1975 to 1997 will run your engine just fine. However one from your generation will be a bolt on and go affair.

I have a 1981, 1991, 1998 Franken-Pump running my engine right now, and a 1991, 1996 Franken-pump running my brothers 1.9L AAZ.

I appreciate your reply. I guess then that I just plug that vacuum line and go. The replacement pump came from a great running 91 jetta. It just doesn't have the flying saucer or the load sensing 12V thing.

That's identical to my replacement pump. Except the fuel return has a standoff piece to elevate it. The original looks just like a late model td pump but I guess is for altitude compensation instead.

Yeah plug the boost line (not a vacuum line, no vacuum on a diesel lol) and don't worry about the 12v, just tape it off and tie it up safely from dangling.

Here is my girlfriends 88 running a TD engine with that same pump pictured above.

Are you sure it's not a vacuum line?  It runs from the vacuum pump to the top of the aneroid to some gizmo on the passenger side of the engine bay in front of the fuel filter.  It came unplugged once and the engine ran like ragged dog droppings.  I think I'm satisfied that the replacement pump will run just fine. Just trying to glean every bit of info I can. Thanks again.

Hmm weird. Id be interested in you popping that very top cover off to see what the pin inside looks like. Vacuum.. weirddd.

ahh yes, the vacuum sucks the plunger up top down.. The solenoid on the side is for timing and internal pump pressures.
