If you are asking what I think you are then yes. My setup was for a scirocco but with an small 24 spline disc. If you get a Mk3 pp that will work with the 1 pin flywheel...or should as far as I have ever seen.
Anyhow, has anyone done this? It appears to me the overall thickness of the earlier flywheel (w/2 dowel pins) is less than that of the later one (w/1 dowel pin) and not sure how this would affect the combination.

Using the 16v plate was the cheaper way to get the extra clamping force without going to a Sachs Sporting. I think the 16v plate was only 10% less clamping force.I'm not sure what you mean by a 16v flywheel. I've pulled them off 16v Sciroccos and 16v A2s and they're the same as the 8v flywheels. The only difference is the actual timing hash mark. TDC is TDC. A couple years ago, I bought a 2 pin LUK flywheel from Bestpricecarparts.-Todd
