Spring Rates For Mk1 Jetta
« on: September 24, 2012, 09:02:33 am »
I'll try to be brief and to the pt. I want to lower my mk1 jetta diesel a bit and also improve the handling. Can't seem to find the stock spring rates for the Jetta- but found gti's

Was thinking 84 gti springs - and found this

Moog Coil Spring - Front - CC206
Brand: MOOG
Auto Part #: CC206
MPN #CC206. Moog Coil Spring - Front. Most Shocks, Struts & Springs products are available for in-store pickup from Advance Auto Parts.
Check Prices
Starting At
$24.81

and this

Moog Coil Spring - Rear - CC201
Brand: MOOG
Auto Part #: CC201
MPN #CC201. Moog Coil Spring - Rear. Most Shocks, Struts & Springs products are available for in-store pickup from Advance Auto Parts.

Went a MOOG Catalogue and found some spring specs of the above.

Stock spring rates of the above are 90 lbs

as suggested below there are springs that seem to fit - lower the car a bit and have a spring rate of 150ish lbs

Fronts - check out the cc230's

   MOOG-CC230   Tangential   Pig Tail   4.560   0.531   9.00   540   149   12.65
   MOOG-CC232   Tangential   Pig Tail   4.560   .531   9.00   606   149   13.25
   MOOG-CC204   Tangential   Pig Tail   4.562   .485   10.00   433   88   14.88
   MOOG-CC206   Tangential   Pig Tail   4.562   .485   10.00   477   88   15.44

Rears - check out the 2228's

MOOG-2228   Tangential   Tangential   2.950   0.406   8.50   490   131   12.16
MOOG-CC201Tangential   Tangential   2.950   0.406   10.00   320   90   14.12

So I'm thinking the cc230's for the front and the 2228's for the rear. These spring rates are comparable to Voigtland spring for a mk1 jetta.

It looks like the spring rates go up, the installed height is lower - 1 inch on the front, 1.5 inch on the rear.

Am I on the right track???

EDIT: The above springs are basically just mk2 springs.  Will this work, as expected?[

mk2 no fit mk1... and mk2 fat vs mk1...

also auto vs manual... do a 5 speed swap on stock springs.. the front lifts up 2" when done w swap.. new ones are "auto" that i see... makes taller...

Don't use rabbit springs on a Jetta, they are terrible. Jettas need a higher spring rate because there is more behind the rear wheels.
