1.6TD T3, stripped the 12mm 12pt?
« on: August 12, 2012, 06:49:55 pm »
So, it would seem one of the four 12mm 12pt bolts stripped the head on me.. how nice.

The other three came out so nice. Its the one up in that tight space too. What are some ideas? Engine is out of car and on the ground.

Thanks Gents.

Any chance of getting one of these on? Irwin's bolt extractors are a useful tool for getting rusty or rounded nuts and bolts out.

Hmm.. It may be possible to physically get it up in there, but i do not have any way to hammer it on.

I have those, but because of the location I didn't even consider them lol. I'll give em a try tomorrow, I'm showered up for the night lol.

Thanks Danny.

weld a piece or nut onto it and turn. Welding heat usually loosens stuff. Out of the car if all else fails, cut the head off and then turn the stub once the turbo is off of it.

I think that thing should get it off, if not its not much work to pull the manifold and grind one bolt head off,  sounds like the bolt is junk anyway.

how come nobody suggested drilling the head off the bolt with a 1/2" drill bit?!

It is one of the inner bolts that are further up and inside that cavity between the manifold and block.

Don't have a welder, and I dunno if I can get a drill bit on to it. I''ll see tomorrow.

I had the same thing happen to me.

how come nobody suggested drilling the head off the bolt with a 1/2" drill bit?!

This is what I did, worked like a charm and the head pulled right off.

Angle grinder to grind off the head. The remaining stud should loose (looser) without the head.
