Hey folks,
I'm feeling a bit short bus about this whole thing, but I figured I'd ask before I even go get messy.
I have a NA 1.6L motor from a Rabbit in my Suzuki Samurai. She's got about 130k miles on the engine. I recently tackled the vacuum pump (old space ship looking thing, not the newer rotary vane pump) for the $20 diaphragm swap. Worked like a charm! It took me a bit to get the pump back into place and bolted down, but it did. Fired it up and sure enough, complete success! Amazing the difference in the brakes! My buddy says "Hey, you're pouring oil..." ... Sure enough a nice puddle under the truck, pop the hood, sure enough it sprayed all over the place from the pump. Now, I was very careful putting it back in, but in my short-bus-head I am only now thinking - hey, shouldn't there be a gasket to replace when you pull the vacuum pump body?
So, I checked partsplaceinc and rockauto and I see nothing.. Is there one? Am I missing something? Could this just be in wrong? Is it possible to get it in 'not all the way' or something?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
