I can't take it. I've gone through all the trouble to have ICE cold a/c in my car and the damn belts NEVER stop squealing upon start up. They only squeal for a minute after the a/c is turned on and then it goes away but DAMN is it annoying.

I built a custom bracket to hold a Sanden 508 on my 20V rabbit and using a March Serpentine pulley...was able to get a nice setup built.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to convert the BEST running NA-TD EVAR (a fact I just made up) to serpentine. I don't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't have too.

Thanks,

Jason

What's with your oil return line??

I've added the serp setup to a 1.6TD.  The AAZ/AHU/1Z bracket works (ABA doesn't) but there is one bracket bolt boss that is missing from the 1.6 block casting.  I welded on a piece and gusset to the injection pump bracket to catch that bolt.  If adding the serp setup to the 1.6 you should update the crank to the TDI sprocket and install a ratcheting pulley on the alt.

Libby - you're seeing the coolant return resting in the oil return line. The motor was dry and I was still mocking parts up at that time.

Burn - Will that setup + the a/c compressor fit in a mk1? If not...I might be inclined to convert all the pulleys to serpentine but then I will have to build my own tensioner.

Personally I have not done it, but I'm pretty sure I read about others doing it. With PS I think you have to hammer the frame rail. Without it I'm not sure. It's probably the exact same as dropping a ABA into a mk1

lower radiator core support.

on a mk1...with the v-belt setup...the compressor is pulled close to the block. On an ABA setup...it's pushed out. mk3's had WAY more room for the ABA with all the attachments on.

This is why you see on my 20v engine that the compressor is bolted to the waterpump with a SMALL bracket.

Room is tight down there!
