So What do I do with It?
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:49:58 pm »
I have replaced the head that had the cracked injector boss on the #1 cylinder.  Thanks Billybobf,  no thanks to the machine shop I took it to.  Lazy duffas.

So I have this complete head and am wondering what do I do, can I do with the remaining parts.  Pulley and cam for sale?  Valves, springs and followers too?  Do scrap yards take these things?  It is aluminum so should I get like 5 or 50 for it?  Is it better to go to a rebuilder for the parts that will work?

Don't tell me to keep it in the shed for a rainy day.  We have plenty of them and a hunk of metal on the floor only gets in the way of the lawnmower and car ramps.

What should be done here?
 DAS

Give it to Dakotakid for the cost of shipping? He is looking for all the parts but a casting...can't remember what casting he has mech or hydro.

if you want to get rid of it, ill take it. you will get about $5 scrap value, unless you take EVERYTHING out of it that ISNT aluminum.. then you might get $8 for it..

dont scrap it. ill trade you something for it if i have something you need..

or buy it off you if you are hard up for money. i figure VW parts might be more valuable than a few bucks cash tho..

Perhaps we can work a trade of head for intake manifold work?  I won't scrap it as I too think the VW parts are more valuable as is then to trash them in a scrapper.  Keep in touch on it.  DAS

Did you not build a TD manifold with a different flow pattern to it?  Seems I thought I saw one here just a few days ago. ;D

um.. you have any idea how much TIME i put into that intake? its not some 45 minute hack job.. that took me a good 20 hours fab/design time..

that wasnt an afternoon hack job by any means.. i poured alot of time and energy into that stupid little intake..

it may not look as pretty as a passenger performance intake, but it works every bit as good.

I know you have R&D upfront time into what you have.  Like any fab job by the time you do the third one you are way better at it and it takes a fraction of the time because you have worked out all or most of the bugs by then.  At least that seems the way it goes for me.

it still takes alot of time to cut all the pieces, and weld it all together. i knew exactly what i was going to do before i even cut anything..

had it planned out exactly, and it still took a long time. even a second manifold, would still take considerable time, if you wanted it to look good, i spent alot of time with the tiger paw making everything look pretty..

im not against building you an intake, but its going to cost more than a head with a bad casting..
