The college I work for has just disposed of a 1.9TD lump. Essentially it is an AAZ bare engine with very few bits attached.
It was donated to the college years ago, used for a few demonstration lectures and then sat on a shelf.
What I am interested in is the compattability of parts with my 1.6GTD
Are the heads the same? could I build a 1.9 GTD?
Also as I'm fitting the GTD in an A1 Caddy and have the downpipe issue, I picked up the 1.9 downpipe which seems larger - anyone know if this is any use?
I dunno, spend ages looking for a TD engine then 2 come along at once!

Does your 1.9 engine have a valve cover? It won't fit a 1.6 so you don't need it, but I do! If it has a valve cover and you want to sell it let me know!
Chris
Put the 1.9 in the car instead of the 1.6, I'll say that much.
The only problem you'll find is that fahrfrumpumpen is reduced.
Sorry Chris I will need the valve cover if I use the rest of the 1.9
If it's any help, my NA T4 Eurovan Transporter had a similar style cover, maybe this might fit or similar from a NA 1.9 VW engine??
Bhtooefr,
Exactly what I was thinking except the 1.9 is a bare engine and needs manifolds etc and not all the bits will swap from my 1.6.
I was thinking I could swap the complete head from the 1.6 onto the 1.9 block. I've read it can be done the other way round - either that or source the required manifolds etc.
Maybe I'll just run the 1.6 for a while and slowly build the 1.9 up as a replacement...
Oh and what exactly is fahrfrumpumpen? (excuse the newb's ignorance!)
Fahrfrumpumpen = far from pumping (fuel)
It has to do with the fuel economy of the VW diesels
I can cope with a reduction in Fahrfrumpumpen providing I see a corresponding increase in stompengrunten.
Stompengruten?
That's actually fahrvergnuegen. Driving pleasure.

And that's not Engman or Gerlish. That's actual German.
