Micro Switch to close the wastegate?
As it is, I have a 1996 Jetta AAZ. the engine runs like a champ, and the turbo has been rebuilt within the last 10k, essentially with new seals and all remanned parts.
Since I reinstalled the turbo i've turned the microswitch on the injector pump to only activate or close the wastegate when the pump senses a load or when the accelerator is at a certain point.
My question is in regards to efficiency.
Would it be better to have the turbo spinning the entire time and only have the wastegate opened when it reaches it's max boost? Which btw is 16 PSI, regulated by a boost valve on a K03 turbo.
Or would I be better off to continue the set up currently and have it only close the wastegate when under load, or close when i need it [upon acceleration]
Currently i've been averaging 6.1l/100km on my car with frequent trips from Vancouver BC to Washington state to go to car shows and other events. I do drive the vehicle to and from work, and that's only a 15km or roughly a 9 mile trip [30km total] and the engine only gets to operating temp within the last 5 km of my drive.
Thanks.
