WTB - MKII drum brake parts
« on: May 21, 2012, 05:19:37 am »
Pulled the pass. side drum the other week and found that one of the shoes had delaminated. The brake adjuster bar was twisted up like a pretzel, the adj wedge was messed up and several springs were floating around free in there as well. I basically need all the hardware....
Thanks,

I know this is maybe not what you're looking for but why don't you just go with rear wheel disc brakes?

You have two options for that, either buying the kit new from suppliers that sell this (like German Auto Parts, The Parts Place, etc.) or gathering the necessary axle stubs and brake parts from a junked vehicle that had factory disc brakes.

This is something I have been planning for a long time, GTI brake swap, I have all the parts coming so I may finally get around to doing it.

If you still want the drum brakes I would ship the entire brake backing plate to with all the hardware on it, assuming they are the right size and that you still need them by the time I get to making the swap, which may or may not happen this week.

Hmmm, ok I didn't know there was 2 different sizes available in 85 for the Jetta diesel N/A..... When I bought the shoes and wheel cylinders I wasn't asked which... guess I was lucky and just happened to get the right ones.

For now this one is my basic dependable low cost transportation, just looking to get it back together for now as the 7.5 in my old pick up is a little bit more thirsty than the Jetta is....  Once I finish the 914 then I'll start on the brake and suspension mods on the Jetta.
Let me know how much and when on the parts you will have.... If I don't find anything in the meantime I am interested.

Nope they didn't have them 6 weeks ago when I checked their listings... even emailed and asked in case they had them and they just weren't listed and they still didn't have them when I just checked again.

Yeah and those are the 2 parts I really need..... >:(  I had really hoped someone had swapped on disc's and still had their old drum set up laying around that I could get those from....

I could have grabbed them if they were the right ones, from the GTI a scrapped first week of June. I don't look at old posts unless I am looking for myself...and I posted on here to try and sell as much as I could before taking her. Sorry.
