 It's common for pieces to build up at the transition from hose to barb/tubing.
Where it goes from the wide ID hose to the narrow barb or fuel line.

 If you don't put it under the car it could build up on the edge of the metal fuel line under the car.

Clear fuel line before an inline filter will show if stuff is building up on the barb.
