Did you have to adjust the tracking?  Did you determine the reason the belt chewed itself up previously?

No, I did not have to adjust any of the sprockets. The belt got shredded, presumably, when the engine ran away on me last week. Who knows how old it was to begin with. I have certainly never changed it, I looked at it when I bought the car (a year ago) and it looked relatively healthy to me at the time.
