Hi guys, first post and all that..   great forum with a wealth of info on my faaavourite diesel - IDI  ;D

Now, forgive me if this is in practice a ridiculous theory, but in theory would it not be possible to modify the internals of an electronic ve with those of a fully mechanical ve? The reason i ask is that i would like to buy an m51 engined (IDI) bmw but they have the semi electronic bosch ve and here in the UK, the mechanical ve's for them are very rare / expensive... and i'd love it to have the same ease of tinkering as my xud9 peugeot..

I have plenty of fully mechanical td peugeot bosch ve pumps lying around which i could nick bits from...

Firstly, is this even possible? If so, would it be as simple as transplanting the gov assembly/levers/lda (basically, the top half of the pump) from the peugeot pumps into the bmw pumps?

I'm not sure about the bmw electronic pumps but I do know that the electronic pumps cannot be converted into a mechanical pump.  The pump body doesn't have provisions for the governor, lever pivots, etc.  Depending how different the peugeot pumps are compraed to the BMW pump, you might be able to use the peugeot pump body and use the head and rotor assembly and camplate from the bmw pump.
