fair enough. good luck with the chevy. i owned a few cavaliers and it was one problem after the next. going to the 1.6L TD engine has been a walk in the park by comparison. hopefully GM has sorted out the issues with the new cavaliers, i don't know much about them but it must feel nice to be in a brand new car after dealing with that headache!  :)

Yeah new car is great.  The Cobalt's not a Cavalier.  It's a Saturn Ion with better sound insulation and a redesigned engine.  Not related to the Cavalier at all.  They were little sh*tboxes.  I wouldn't buy one.  Almost as bad as the Neon.  Hopefully this car is good quality.

Truth be told, go online at vwquebec.ca and see for yourselves.
Lots of running 1.6TD's complete motor going for 350.00-500.00 Can.
The 1.9's go anywhere from 1000.00 to 1700.00 complete.
I picked-up my complete doner A3 car with 270,000 km's for
900.00 Can. Lots of compression!!
Yes they are cheaper in québec I gather as VW's have always been very popular with the more Euro mined french canadians.
Almost everyone I know here owned a VW at one point.
In the eighties / early nineties the VW's dealers practically had lineups.
Now that they have priced themselves out of the workingman's pricerange seems only high zoot perfume wearing wage earners go there now.
Later,
Hughie

Yes, for transportation. As in, to get one home from Canada. I'd suspect that weight would be the issue - closing the trunk wouldn't be necessary. ;)

However, I really don't have the money for this, this is just an idea I'm tossing around for fun.

BTW, VW Motorsport already did the whole "two running engines (1.8L 8V gassers), one of them in the trunk" trick on a Jetta (the Twin-Jet) and a Scirocco (the Bimotor Scirocco), and then some nutcase that lives in Cincinatti did the Durocco, another twin-engined Mk2 (A1, of course) 'rocco.

I really recommend checking out his site.  There are a lot of cool videos.  One of them has him just beating the pants off a Boxster. How he managed that with two engines is beyond me considering the weight.  I'm sure two 1.8 liter engines would be a LOT heavier than 1 3.2 liter v-6 (at the most)

I've already been to his site and watched all his videos.

The best two were the clutch job and the engine replacement, which weren't even ON the Durocco :P
