$150 would be a hell of a deal. Price vary quite a bit depending on the condition and what's included. A used engine assembly with everything cam easily bring in several hundred dollars. It can be much more for a rebuilt engine. The deals are out there though - usually when the seller doesn't know what they have.

If you are buying the car to make a profit.  I will give you 300 dollars for the td motor.  I will also pick it up locally.

Yeah, just a rebuildable turbo block can be a few hundred.  If it runs, more.  Down here in the US, there weren't many of the turbos, so they're rare.  In Canada maybe not.

They're like rabbits (the cute fuzzy kind). But nobody sells them unless they've got Honda on the brain and don't know/care what they have.

A recent ebay listing sold all the turbo accessories )turbo, manifolds, oil pan, oil hoses, etc. for over $600.
A complete rebuildable, or possibly even running turbo engine would be worth at least that.

in canada you can get a running 1.6L TD for $100. might need rings or something at that price. i got one in a junker jetta, $600cdn for the whole car (but it needed head work). i traded a complete navy blue rabbit GTI interior for one complete one (needs rings) and one setup in pieces. up here they aren't difficult to find and most people want 1.9L diesels, IDI or TDI. i can't bring myself to resell these things for profit so if i come upon any more at good prices i'll post them in the for sale section.

Would a MF-code engine fit in the trunk of an A2 Jetta?

Alternately, how quickly could an engine swap be done?

I need BOOOST! (Actually, I just need to drive it with the new air filter and fuel filter :P)

you mean......fit in the trunk for transportation, right? it probably would but you might not be able to close the trunk.

engine swap, well... if its a mkII TD going into a mkII diesel car.... could be done in a day if you have everything you need. very simple swap with minimal electrical fuss.

Yes, for transportation. As in, to get one home from Canada. I'd suspect that weight would be the issue - closing the trunk wouldn't be necessary. ;)

However, I really don't have the money for this, this is just an idea I'm tossing around for fun.

BTW, VW Motorsport already did the whole "two running engines (1.8L 8V gassers), one of them in the trunk" trick on a Jetta (the Twin-Jet) and a Scirocco (the Bimotor Scirocco), and then some nutcase that lives in Cincinatti did the Durocco, another twin-engined Mk2 (A1, of course) 'rocco.

there have been a bunch of dual motor and rear motor setups over the years... i know of a local lunatic giving it a shot!

i doubt the weight would be a major issue... just move anything to the front that you can. the back end should be fine esp if you have stiff or tall springs.

..and i bet you could find a cheapish 1.6L TD (MF code) easier than you think!
