Hanging rpm after hardline change - IDI
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:43:15 am »
One of the hardlines sprung a leak so I got replacements from prothe. I had to bend them slightly to make them fit my 1.6td pump on an aaz. I also redid the timing. I don't have any tools for timing so I just rotated the pump by ear until the smoke faded and the knock was only audible on a pulled out cold start lever. Now when I actuate the throttle lever the rpm will hang for a long 2 seconds...
Any ideas?

I wouldn't have pulled out the cold start lever when trying to time it by ear.  And it sounds like you need to back off the smoke screw and maybe then adjust the idle back up with the stop that touches the accel lever.

ID of the lines could be off some??? You could be throwing more or less to it than you were before needing to chance advance??? all guesses to this, shouldn't do that unless your fuel screw was messed with. Could it have been bumped?

The fuel screw is really locked down but it is turned in really far. Ill try backing it off.
For what its worth, I didn't time the pump with the lever out I merely meant to point out I timed so it only clacked with the lever out.

Pulling the cold start lever only adds a few degrees of advance to the system.  2.5 I think, so if you're clacking at that point I would wonder how it is going to do as you cruise down the road at 50.  There you add about 12 degrees to it if your IP internal pressure is correctly set to give you 74 Lbs at that RPM.

Maybe that bears looking into.  Amount of advance if clacking at idle versus no clack.  You would need a timing gauge to know your values as you have it set right now.  Since you don't have one any one near you that you could measure it?

pretty sure the cold start lever advances the timing +6*

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I advanced the timing some more and it went away mostly.

I ran into the opposite once upon a time..  Replaced the hard lines (with used OE ones no less) Clacked like a Mofo till I toyed with the timing...

Yes I found the same. Clacked hardcore and burned grey/white + hanging rpm until I really fiddled with the timing a bunch.
