Identifying TDI Turbos for an TIDI Upgrade
« on: April 09, 2012, 02:11:29 pm »
I am going to look at a pile-o-turbos tomorrow, all purported to be TDI stuff. How do I identify the ones that I am interested in?
Other than the numbers which may be hard to read in a low light situation. He claims they are all ALH from '99-'03 and BEW from '04-'06, but I am not sure he knows what he is talking about. So which ones do I want for my (IDI) Low Bucks GTD? The VNTs should be pretty easy to identify, but are there any others worth picking up?

All those turbo's should be a variable vane turbo if they came on the diesels after 1999. I am pretty sure VW did not go back to a waste-gated turbo after the VNT debuted.. but I could be wrong.

your NOT wrong Jer...

VNT it is since 99

let me know if he has more than 1 VNT, and if you will want to part with any.

im looking for a VNT now, but if the deal falls thru that im looking at, i need to find one elsewhere..

would even settle for a couple GOOD cores to rebuild if you cone across any in that pile of turbos..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

The clown has gone to ground again. As soon as I can get him to respond, I will go see them. What is a core worth?
