Prepping pump for shipping?
« on: April 02, 2012, 06:48:44 pm »
I've got a lovely new Giles pump installed, and need to ship the core back to him.

Any hints for draining out the old diesel, sealing it up, packing and shipping?  I hear the courier companies are not impressed with cardboard boxes leaking diesel onto their trucks.

You are correct sir. I was a complete idiot and sent mine full of diesel, it was stopped in ontario somewhere. I have since learned from Ohio to Giles no problem shipping. Want to hear it...hear it go:
I drain the ip from the in and out bolts, pump moved in all positions and set upside down for a while to drain. I have taken the fuel seliniod out, but it doesn't really do anything but a drip if you do it after the out bolt. I then wrap the IP in the absorbant material that will soak up oil. Put a couple plastic bags over that and finally packing material.

I have shipped the same pump that got stopped at customs the first time that way and no issues. I would almost bet you could send it full of fuel with all the crap I put on it, but it was a bad time almost losing it the first time, so I don't chance it anymore.

Try and drain it as best you can, and then when you are done I would wrap it in a few garbage bags. Each one being taped up by itself.

I have had a few pumps come to me that way, and they were not stopped at customs.

I don't know this feeling as the pumps I ship out are sparkling clean :D lol

Actually baby diapers? or the oil pickup foam material referred to as diapers?
