Ice and water shield roofing materials to deaden sound

Left my sun room open and three hours of hardcore rains soaked my carpet. Spent the past two days ripping the interior out. The carpet i will reuse but the stuff under needs replaced. Im think of using ice and water shield on the floors and some carpet padding over that and then the carpets back in. Any suggestions? My floors have been wet before and there was some nasty algae growing on my floorpans lol.

Fix your leaks before you sound deaden anything.
Then make sure your floors are rust free.
Then use that stuff they sell at Home Depot. It's 6 inches wide. It's in the roofing section. I forget what it's called.

Be careful with how much you pack under the carpet because the way my VW is set up the little feet have to slide in the tracks. There are some tabs that still hang out of the tracks and will not allow the seat to slide easily if there is too much carpet next to the sliders. I purchased a new carpet that has padding on it already so I may need to pull or reduce the size of the rubber matting I put down to sound deaden it some.

It came out moderately quieter, especially less squeaks and rattles. The pads helped a LOT in the doors; they sound like a 90's car when they shut instead of a 70's dumpster lid, "thump" instead of "clunk". Less wind noise in the body and doors above 60 mph, and rain doesn't sound as much like lead shot hitting the sides and floor pan when driving down the road. The engine sounds a liiiitle bit quieter, but it was a 1.6 NA at the time so I'm not surprised it didn't change much.

Ice and water shield is some wicked stuff. I used it on my house and absolutely no leaks. One of the hot-rod sites suggests using this stuff also. Seems to be one of the more popular items. Just make sure it's exactly where you want it. once set, the stuff is permanent.

1985 jetta TD. It was free, and it shows. Down and dirty engine refresh made it run fairly well.... No leaks, except water into the cabin!
