1.9 Diesel Intake Question.
« on: March 17, 2012, 03:24:30 am »
Are there any other intakes available for the AAZ head. I would like to pitch the stock AAZ TD intake when I find a VNT, as the stock intake looks pretty restrictive.

What are the guys that are hot rodding AAZs doing for Intake manifolds? Is there any better option than stock?

Toby, you will want to find an intake off a 1Y (1.9 n/a IDI) for use on the AAZ w/ a VNT..

its shaped more like a gasser intake, with nice long, large diameter runners, and a proper plenum on top..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

If you want your intake poiting to the drivers side it is actually a PD130 you want, PD150 manifolds point to the passanger side, same as the stock intakes. I purchased mine off of a TDICLUB member for around 130us (ish) shipped to Canada from Germany. By far the best deal I could find.
TDI club member: slow-moe

Could only find good feedback about him, and after my transaction with him thats all I had also. Very profetional and very very good prices. Much better then the scabs Ive seen selling them on vortex for sure.

But remember, If you want the intake pointing to the drivers side like the one above it is actually a PD130

Actually I think the 130/150 number means something else as referenced in my engine build thread:

PD130 means the intake is from a 1.9TDI 130hp engine, has nothing to do with the part number or direction. The PD130 intakes facing towards the driver side comes from longitudinally mounted engines, the transverse mounted PD130/PD150 engines has the intake pointing towards the passenger side.

Don't know why I thought otherwise.  You can get either, depending on what IC piping you want to run.  My intake P# is 038 129 713 AJ if it helps.

I had a line on some VNT 15s but the guy has not gotten back to me, in a while. I am going to call him on Monday. It will be going on an AAZ that I just picked up for my Low Buck GTD project. I have a dead '86 GTI as my test mule.

As for controlling the vanes, I expect that I will end up with some kind of conventional WGA modified to fit.

Does anybody know it the clipped intake manifold in the the link above is a D24 Volvo parts or a 2.4D 5 banger from a Eurovan or other V/A? Its just labeled D24.

That looks like an NA D24 manifold, but the D20 man probably is identical once you chop off the extra leg.

the D20 intake follows the curvature of the hood.

intake runner #1 is shorter than intake runner #5..

if you had it installed on a rabbit/jetta, the manifold would be lowest on the passenger side, and highest on the drivers side.. the actual plenum that is..

That is good to know, and deffinatley makes sence. My manifold, whether it is a 150 or 130 has a 2.25" bore were the racepipe adaptor fits onto it. Im not to sure If they came with different size bores between the 130 or 150?
Maybe that would be some good info to round up for the FAQ

Mine has a 2.25 bore at the race pipe as well.
