Recaro - what's the big deal?
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:55:26 am »
I have a 91 jetta GL.  Are the Recaro seats from a mk2 gti much better?

I see front Recaros that would match my interior for sale near me $500.  I wonder what others opinions are?

Would you pull good seats and drop $500 on Recaros that are 20yrs old?

if the only recaros were the $500 ones, then yes..

but usually, it should come with the rest of the interior also for that price.. 500 dollars is SUPER STEEP for just the seats.. they better be perfect 10/10 condition for that price..

recaros are AMAZING if you have back issues.. next to recaros, are corrado seats, then 85/86 GTI/Golf seats..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..

89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

No, I wouldn't want to pay $500.

But I would pay the $50 they ask for car seats at the u-pull-it junkyard. I would even pay double that. This sort of stuff is cycling into junkyard now or being parted out, but you have to keep your eyes open for it.

I paid $300 for my fronts + rear. And like was said before-if the only ones were $500-I'd get them. I spend between 10-12 hours a week in my car. No way I could do it without them. Anytime you use the car, you'll be using the seats.

Yeah, $500 is never-been-sat-upon prices, these grey Recaros are pretty common. If they are really pristine, with the full car set, maybe, otherwise keep looking or talk him down.

Spend some arse-time in them, however, and you'll know your money was wisely invested... your body does not get fatigued on long trips like in OEM seats. Worth the effort.

Or go nuts, with a nice set like this;  ;D

that's for the comments.  sounds like Recaros are a big deal ;D

i'll try to talkk him down but he stated firm so maybe I'll offer 350 or so and tell him to call me when they don't sell!

he is in alberta and to many people have too much money out there so maybe 500 is right for that market :-\

ive got 2 sets and 4 cars...

the 1stset i got in 98 from a car that had a interior fire.. at a junk yard.. for $75 and only needed a good cleaning.. i put them in my 84 coupe.. which i quit driving in 05 as i wanna put a tdi in it.. gas costs too much.. in 08 i put its pasenger seat in my b3 td wagon as well i missed recaro on my arss..

the 2nd set i stumbuled across in 08 for 150... i put them in my 81 1.6na coupe.. then this past june put them in my kubvan... and put stock crappy seats back in the coupe..

till you do a road trip in a set.. and as long as your butt is not huge.. they show you so much love.. the squeeze you.. they hold you and just seem to be perfect for support/comfort..

i rember when the legless bastard got his first ride in one.. instant love... he really hated i never put a passenger one in my b3.. :D this was when they were in the 81 coupe.. he happy i put them in the toaster.. and before you try to ban me like whoretex... he knows of how i speak of him.. :P

I am seriously debating getting these seats to replace my cracked vinyl seats, but that's 1/5 out of my engine build budget.

I like the way the leather ones pictured drop down in the front because:

I got a set of recaros out of a '91 Jetta GLi.
They hurt the back of my legs, above the knee, on long trips.
Sometimes adjusting the seat forward helps left my knees a little.

andy... you can drive it sittin on a milk crate... but you cannot drive it with 1/5 less engine... seats are neet.. but can be gotten at any point down the road...

p.s. i hate leather... they suck int he cold.. they really suck in the summer... ive only owned 1 car with leather.. and compaired to my cloth replacement.. there is a huge differance driving in summer with leather vs cloth.. even in the shade they make your arss sweat..
