Hey Guys! I'm new to these boards. My name is JD, I live in Minnesota and I just purchased a beautifuil clean '81 diesel rabbit! Ill post some pictures below. I'm doing work on the clutch and brakes right now. But does anyone know if the leak below is coming from that rubber return hose or the seal between the injector halves?
Thanks!
JD

They can be hard to figure out. It looks to me like the bottom hose is wet, so that would be my guess.

x2..
try cutting a half inch off the wet hose and see if that fixes your leak..
ive found that those braided return lines dont always seal the best.. i use toyota vacuum line for my return lines from the injectors.. they fit ALOT better than the braided hose. they dont want to come off sometimes, because they fit SOO GOOD..
anyways, its hard to determine if your leak is from either location.. it could even be from the high pressure line..
my rabbit had a leak in the exact same spot, and would only get the pump side of the injector wet.. anyways, i replaced my return lines more than a few times, tightened the injector halves, tightened my high pressure line, did everything in my power.. never fixed that leak..
anyways, fast forward to engine swap time, and i had the injection pump off the engine, and i found, believe it or not, that my injection pump was missing a screw from the cold start mechanism.. fuel would only spray from the pump when internal pressure was highest.. i never revved the engine up to look for leaks.. so i never saw that MY PUMP was actually the source of the leak!
X3 on return line
Very nice find, that's a good lookin bunny!
and it has the ultra rare baby blue/white interior, good luck finding window cranks!!
That's a horrid piece of junk.. You should just give up on it now and ship it to me!!!

And yes, those window cranks in that color are HELL to find.. 5 cars and a Caddy and the window cranks were junk in em all...
I missed the car pic. What happened to it? Go for some universal handles in chrome or black and be done with it. Finding the stock ones can be a life long quest.
Welcome and enjoy.
Your car looks like a triangle with an exclamation mark inside of it.
Maybe its the camera angle - or try using the flash
What is the paint code of this car? Should be on the right side of the hood release just in front of the radiator. I think I came close with my choice but it was a bugger to try and match the interior colors after 30 years of fade. That is why I did the dual colors. My panels are more gray than white now. Diesel soot? Probably.
The injector leak looks to me as usual it is coming from the rubber line in the pic. It even looks a little wet. You can get new line at autohaus or replace it with tygon.
