He has to be older than that guys.  What 16 or 18 yr old even knows who Al G. is/was or what the comment means.  Have any of you seen the recent crackdown on soot?  Court case against the EPA to revise the standards.  Guess what type of engine is targeted?  Yeah you buddy, pouring coals, or in some case fryer fat or WMO, out the tail pipe. 

As for Warming?  Not as bad last year as the news makes it out to be.  Actually a little cooler over all.  Just that the news emphasizes the extremes.  Like Texas last year and Europe this winter.  Man I am so glad I am not trying to keep a Rabbit running in those temps.  Even 8V would find it difficult. -39 degrees?  Just how cold is that?  Do your eyes just like freeze closed with the first blink?

I read somewhere that people were taking WMO and building their own cracking tower and coming up with some diesel from that. Anyone try that?

Anyone capable of building a cracking tower has more money than sense.  Why not just go buy diesel instead.  Unless they got a deal on it from BP or Shell Oil I can't see where it would pay off at all.

Is the EPA aware of this?  Seems to be on their radar lately.

I would think cold filtration would have bigger benefits and less energy consumption.

1100 miles in, I've done some calculations:
 3.79 a gallon divided by 47 mpg = .084 cents per mile times 15k miles = $1260. So, @ the current rate of 50/50 wmo/diesel I'll save $630 in 15k.
I bought 4 injectors used for $20, paid $450 for a remanned IP, and have approximately $50 in filters, containers and fuel.
So in about 14k miles I will have broke even assuming I wipe out the pump and all 4 injectors.
In 30k miles I will have paid for the pump, injectors, and the $800 I paid for the car, assuming nothing goes wrong (which is my bet.)
I drive on average 1500 miles a month.
During the summer I hope to run near full wmo, saving $120 per month.
And, given Iran just started cutting fuel supply, the current obummer president, etc. I think it's a valid assumption that fuel prices will go up, meaning I stand to save $150+ a month.
8 months of $150-month savings will pay for the car and an IP, or 16 months @ the current rate of 50/50.
Or, assuming nothing goes wrong, 6 months of 50/50 and 6 months if 100% wmo will save me $1400 a year.

I wouldn't go 100% wmo even in July August.
Really wouldn't go past 50/50 - not saying it won't run/work - thinking of other factors including viscosity and accelerated residual build.

50/50 should go well for years and years and years.
Just keep a healthy filtration process and don't get slack on that part of it.
Maybe swap in freshened/new nozzles every year.
They might wear/foul faster than average.

Cost per bag - gallons per bag
Are you diluting 50/50 before filtering ?

I've been saving my oil changes for past 3-4 years.
But sooty diesel oil "might not" be best product ??

Also - factor in the savings of Gallons Used / Dollars Spent, versus driving a 20mpg gasser like most other folks. Or even 25 mpg gasser. For 15k miles/year.
There's some carbon offsets right there.

It turns into an equation where every fool should be driving these cars, instead of just us fools.

WDK  Is this the car that had the fuel filter plug as well?  And didn't you fix that with a second better filter?  How about throwing in a sedimenter/water catch?  Should be a heated one, either electric or coolant heat will do the job. 

Perhaps you have the root of the problem solved with the re-ring of the engine and have a handle on getting to a cleaner fuel. 

Do you think there is a connection between the UMO fuel and the engine fail?  I can't remember if UMO is more of a lubricant than standard diesel or not.  I would have to go dig in that publication I posted here someplace that looked at that issue.
