WTB Cheap 1.6 diesel VW in SE U.S.

I need to find a car that will run while I replace the engine in my Golf, with a 1.6 turbo. I would prefer one that I could eventually put my 1.6 N/A that I will be rebuilding.

How about this one ( no affiliation)?  I did speak to the guy and the car has 200K on it.  Says it runs and drives- the damage is cosmetic.  I really have enough ( after I convert my Cabriolet)

No, but I really was just information gathering.  I was concerned that the hit bent the lower control arm or strut mount area- he said it didn't.  He hasn't had it all that long and bought a truck to replace it , so perhaps he's not one of "us".  Can't hurt to ask, but you can't get anything for under $1K these days, so he may stick to it.
