We had to manually adjust the timing but software handled the IQ adjustment. Might need a tad more IQ adjustment (which will need to be done manually via the "hammer mod") but it runs well enough for now to get it on the road 8)

When you adjusted the timing - was it done mechanically - or was it close enough that the software was able to handle it ?

You always have to adjust timing manually. VCDS just takes the place of the dial gauge on tdi's.

Ah - Ha

Thanks Rally - i had just come here to ask that exact question - for verification.

I was under an impression that Vcom was able to make "some" adjustment to the timing. And wanted to ask to verify that.

The AHU i just recently did, dial gauged at about 0.43 after new components.
It cranked and ran about same as before - or so.

Today i bumped it up to 0.685 (tried twice for 0.70 and called it close enough at that). Throttle response does seem peppier just revving in the driveway now. I was just going to get it closer to spec for now - in case Vcom couldn't handle that much slack.

Good to finally know that Vcom can't/doesn't handle any slack like that.

So what is IQ ? Injection Quantity ?
Is it the same as adjusting the fuel screw on a 1.6 Inj Pump ?

I think this one might be a tad on the rich side.

Yes it's injection quantity. It's not quite as extreme as adjusting the fuel screw. I'm not sure exactly how it is physically controlled but I think it changes the range of the accelerator lever slightly up or down.

Pretty happy with the first highway tank of 52.86 MPG beating my best mileage out of the '84 (51.2 on that same drive).

A few minor things still to do:
Need a light bulb behind the HVAC controls, burnt out
Boost and EGT gauges installed. Having issues getting EGT probe to read. New South claims their gauge is a K type thermocouple, however it is not working with my probe.
Need a new spare tire/wheel. There is another stock alloy in the trunk but has a horrible bend and busted tire.
Want to find a leather wrapped wheel, or buy a wheelskin wrap. Foam is falling apart in my hands.
Need to install new headliner to stop the flapping in the breeze!
Got the Sony stereo installed out of the Honda, however now the front passenger speaker has blown
Have a new cut switchblade key. Need to get it programmed to immobilizer
Need to get EGR function removed from software (hopefully later this week).

Wonder why it only got 52.8 mpg ?
You didn't take the antenna and mirrors off ?
Maybe the paint needs a better polishing ?
Has Jess gained a lot of weight recently ?

hahahahaaaaahhaaaa

Thats great news
And great MPG !
Sounds like this is working out Really Well
