Heater box foam/seals
« on: January 24, 2012, 12:01:20 pm »
All this talk recently of heater boxes having correct foam insulation got me wondering.. Does 84 jetta non-ac have any?

So I went out to look, and it appears that it has good seals regarding the difference between the settings. Ie. If you have it on defrost none is coming out the vents or floor, and vice versa.

But it would seem that the little cover that covers the end of the heater core on the hose side is allowing quite a bit of cold air to be expelled in to the cabin.. How do we solve this?

Does the cover attach with four plastic tabs?  Press them down and pull out.  The whole cover comes off.  Take some sponge rubber or foam or weather strip from your doors on your house and stick it in there on the cover.  Reinstall cover.  Add enough foam or weatherstrip to take up the gap.  That should keep the cold air above the core and force it to heat up before delivering to the cabin.

Hot legs to you bud.

I wrapped my heater control flaps with lots of Duct tape. Its been working fine for 3 years AKA plenty of heat when needed and plenty of fresh air when Im dying from heat.
