I was buying a 0A8 gearbox (Code FSM, from a Skoda Fabia VRS). It's 99% same as the 02M but without the VSS!
I removed the VSS from my 02M and I saw how it's made: 7 notch on the diff casting.
Does someone know if the diff is the same inside the 0A8? I could drill the case and put the 02M VSS. If not, I'll install an external VSS.
Thanks
Are you on motorgeek? I imagine they might have some more info always trying to figure out what to use in place of broken 01A's and whatnot.
I'm not really a transmission guy but I think the 01a is fragile. I was just saying the people on motorgeek.com know more about transmission swaps than do people here, or at least there is more discussion of transmission related items aside from ratios.
I didn't talk about 01A!!!
I don't know if the vss will fit as I never have tried that swap. If the cases are the same then it "should" fit I would think. Maybe some machining required if it is different??? I am guessing.
It could just be the picture, but is the starter hole higher on one than the other?
Starter hole is same...
There's the "plate" where the VSS sits on the 02M but not any hole.
I think I'll use an external VSS with a custom trigger wheel.
Why 01A?
I was referring to it as an example. %90 of the people on this site run 020 don't have any other options and don't know anything about skoda gearboxes. I was attempting to refer you to a site which may contain more insight on obscure transmission swaps. Where did you get a skoda box on this side of the planet anyway?
I got it from UK. It was on a Fabia VRS 2004 PD130
