So a long time friend of mine in Florida who has many connections came across a 1993 Golf from Canada with a 1.9AAZ. These snowbirds brought the car down with them and it started acting up on them. Come to find out the crank/timing gear are trashed. I have not seen it first hand but I know that's the problem.
Now around these parts ALL I can find are 1.6N/A motors so I'm dying to get my hands on this thing. I know he will sell it to me because he loves cash but my issue...what's the best route to fix this thing.
I've never even seen an AAZ until this car came along and I've been doing VW's for 15 years. Probably won't see another for a while if at all so it's worth it for me to get this motor.
Regards,
Jason
okay..sure of done my research first. guess I can just pull the crank and get it milled to fit a TDI pulley. Good thing is this motor still ran when they caught it.
Definitely will buy this motor!!!
Yeah snatch that up I wish I could find one around here
Aaz is a bigger motor so turbo options are better
You found a diesel in the south! Congrats. Now find me one :-)
New valves would be a good idea too. Usually the head gets trashed when these go, but since it was still running, you are probably safe.
BYM , you could make a handsome living by driving Mk3 AAZ cars down here and selling them one after another. Lol
I want a 93-95 Jetta AAZ myself.
Will probably settle on converting a Mk3 gasser to 1.6
Vdubspeed, Libby had a proceedure to do that with crankshaft still in car/engine.
Might check into it.
