A little mishap..
« on: December 30, 2011, 03:12:16 pm »
Had a little mishap with my 1.6 td.

Were filled with 15 liters degreaser by mistake   :-[
After 10 km this happened...

Well, If nothing else is broken, I will replace this 8 mm head with a 10 mm. ''after a thorough cleaning''

I'm not sure.
The car been imported second hand from Germany and has, among other things, no LDA.
Can not make out numbers on the pump.

My second 1.6, ''sold in Sweden'', has a 9 mm.

Engine definitely cannot hold 15 liters.. That is a fuel pump plunger.. The tank must have been filled with 15L of degreaser :( didnt know you could run on degreaser ;)

BRAIN DEAD.  did the conversion all wrong in the brain before blurting out engine oil.  15 liters is about the same number of quarts not divided by about 4 to get quarts.  That gives gallons.  So about 4 gallons in the fuel tank.

but I bet the IP is real clean now baby!  Injectors too.

But I still can't figure out the part or how they got that fluid in the tank?  Grabbing up a Jerry can and pouring unknown fuel in tank for lack of cash to go for a beer run?

Come on fess up.

Well you can, but not for long..   :o

Well, it was entirely my own fault

'Short story'... Almost empty in the tank.  Dark garage. In a hurry. 2 canisters (Jerry can?). One with diesel , one with degreaser. Took the wrong one...   ::)

Then, 10 km later, on the fly, it just felt like turning of the key.  No noise, no twitching.. just died.

Then... I went home and had a beer...   ;D

Ahhh,  It is the piston from inside the pump.  No lube equals friction, then seize.  Ouch.
