And where did you get that Mk1 downpipe that's nice...the ones I've got came from Techtonics.

It's from Passenger Performance in BC  and it's ceramic coated. They've gone out of production now.

I thought that was one of their creations...it sucks that they're not making them anymore, much better than TT  IMO. easier to remove if needed.

Look, if corn and kudzu fall in love and have a baby in a lab under the supervision of scientists working in my employ, WHO AM I TO STOP THAT other than the CEO responsible for stopping it???

i don't think there were any oil pan changes other than volume until 99-01 area when they changed the whole 4 cylinder block around.

if it were me i would use the standard size 45 trim t3 with .48 a/r exhaust housing, easy and cheap to find and they sell a compatible exhaust manifold cheap on ebay.  the power potential between the two is pretty big, and an aaz is a good size engine it, the 45 trim won't be too big at all.  if you're worried about easy install or spool up you could build a hybrid like i have, use the center section turbine wheel and exhaust housing from the vw t3, and then use the compressor wheel and housing from the 45 trim turbo.  then you can use the vw exhaust manifold and oil lines and down pipe but u get the advantage of the bigger compressor.  50 trim t3 would be even better.
