Next, I will start building the mount
« on: October 08, 2011, 08:55:39 pm »

Here is the mock up for the mk2,mk3 style mount. I am going to make a jig type thing to hold the engine mount without the cast Al piece so I know where it is supposed to be. It looks like it maybe easier than I had once thought, but I will hold my breath a little to make sure. VW of course made the cast piece so that they bosses are NOT on the same plane, or even 2 and 2 on the same plane, and that looks like the only hold up.

What you are looking at is a 1.6TD with a 1.9 head and my special turbo and intake. The turbo isn't bolted correctly as it cannot be. The 1.9 blocks should make it go easier as they are 16mm or so taller than the 1.6. Wdkingery will get the first one for fitting. After that I will probably make a couple to sell to you guys...except nathan_b as I don't like him, he is in an mk1, and he is probably above these mounts anyway.

I dont really see the interference problem you are referring to. Perhaps you could detail? There is also a different bracket that is OEM and offset differently. auto vs. manual are different.. that might help or not..

In the second pic you can see it some. The bolt hanging down out of the manifold I cannot get into the turbo as it is hitting the mount. The cold side of the turbo is also hitting the mount. You can see it if you look at the first and third pics, I should have taken a better shot.

Basically to mount a VNT or even flip a K24 or T3 *I think* you are going to run into engine mount issues. If nothing else getting the intake hose to clamp onto the turbo. What I am hoping for is to make the mount about 3/4" thinner so that all will work. I may go a to around 1" shorter and that would make the engine about 1/4" higher on this side if there are no other mount issues by doing this. This VNT is a bit bigger than the vw VNT's and doesn't have an intergraded manifold so I can get away with a little more possilby.

If someone has that etka thing and could confirm different engine mounts that would be great. The hard part should all be the same, but I know there were different rubber mounts.

one thing i see here being a problem, is that you need a stock VNT15/1749V to be able to mock up too.. my turbo and manifold is way closer to the mount than that.

a stock mk2 engine mount blocks like 1/3 of the inlet of the turbo.. and they interfere badly. i think i have pictures somewhere. let me see if i can find them.
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

    191 199 354c is for a manual
    191 199 354b is for an automatic

Not sure if thats going to help much, but it might be worth taking a look at.

Just thought of something...
diesel auto is hen's teeth and probably not going to be VNT'ed

I have a pic of a T3 upside down and it looks like the bottom 1/3 of the inlet is covered. IIRC the VNT will be about 2" low and 2" out of the deck height of the block. If anyone could give measurements or donate a turbo for me to use that would be great.

Those mounts are not diesel specific. Its either manual or auto. Fuel source does not matter.

But the chances of finding a car with an auto trans and a VNT hanging off the back of the motor is gonna be RARE.

VNT mount tacked.
VNT 1749v   and above for reference a can of beer and a GT2256vk

I would like to presell 10 at 75.00 each plus shipping. If I get bogged down with them the price will go up as it has been a bit of work so far. If I don't sell 10 I will finish what I have and call no joy :D Let me know what you think.
I will also post in the for sale section.

I was probably never gonna need one but this still stinks. Anyone with a normal brain would've suggested the fix and then SHUT UP.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

I don't own a diesel mk2 anymore either but I hope the actions of the few don't dampen the spirit. Its projects like these that help the rest of us out in the long run as well! I have never seen a for sale thread go bad like that in a long time. The mod's on a couple other sites i'm on will immediately dink you for crapping in a FS thread.

We don't really have any full time mods, they tried to quit but can't stay away so once in a while they step in and put a halt to this nonsense.......
