Hi, I have measured the bores on my stock 1.6 td hydraulic block. Standard the bore is 76.51mm, my significant wear is obviously at the top of the cylinder, but it seems to be just before the 0.08mm limit that Bentley gives and I'm not sure whether to rebore or just hone and re-ring. Can anyone give a bit of advice/previous experience for these blocks as I'm not sure what to do. Obviously I'm trying to keep costs down but I don't want to build an engine that will start burning oil after 20-30k miles.
Measurements:
Top (just under ring "ridge"):
Cylinder 1 - X-axis 76.54
Y-axis 76.57
Cylinder 2 - X-axis 76.54
Y-axis 76.575
Cylinder 3 - X-axis 76.53
Y-axis 76.575
Cylinder 4 - X-axis 76.52
Y-axis 76.58
Middle :
Cylinder 1 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.54
Cylinder 2 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.54
Cylinder 3 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.54
Cylinder 4 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.54
Bottom:
Cylinder 1 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.53
Cylinder 2 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.53
Cylinder 3 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.53
Cylinder 4 - X-axis 76.51
Y-axis 76.53
EDIT: Sorry I just relised this is just a bunch of numbers. The maximum difference is on cylinder 4 where there is 0.07mm of wear, no out of round problems as far as I can see...
if I need to rebore I am very tempted to buy prothe pistons and put goetze rings on them, can anyne vouch for this combination? Otherwise if I just need to hone it I will be using Goetze rings on the original pistons
thanks
Will
