Looking for some advice on what i suspect is algae. A few tanks back in the tdi cabby, it sat for quite some time while i moved from place to place for work and it only saw light driving, that tank of fuel spanned two states 4 locations and 2.5yrs! Anyway i finally get a chance to start enjoying this fall and i have had what seemed like a starvation issue after driving a bit. So i changed filter and installed a prefilter with a clear case so i could see what the story is. It once had a rusty tank when it was a gasser but i did the por15 on it and it should be good. Initially i thought the por15 did me wrong because i caught in the clear filter what looked like rust colored chunks odd shaped for rust but i figured new tank was in the future. I took the filter apart and found they are soft chunks almost like muddy playdoe i can take them swirl them between my fingers and they become a thick viscous liquid again. I now think that it is an algae but having gone through 3 tanks now of cough cough red fuel from my favorite local supplier i am still collecting these chunks. Is there an additive to kill them off? Am i wrong about it being algae? or is best bet to drain and clean tank and start fresh? Also what should i do to prevent this when it goes into hibernation shortly? thanks in advance for any ideas!
i have an excavator with the same problem... pink

fungus type stuff! where could i purchase said biocide? enough to treat, lets say 100 liters?
... nevermind

just followed the link to Walmart!
I wonder if this is more a problem with our newer fuels? I have had older diesels back when sit for years with old fuel and though it seemed to loose some umph never had anything growing in it! Of course that was when diesel was diesel, not this gas wannabe crap they are selling at the pump now!
