Interesting LDA. I didn't know Holset made such a small turbo. Never seen anything like it before.

the intake manifold is a modded gasser unit. You can clearly see where the 5th injector would have bolted in on the back/topside. The part that bolts to it however is from a mold for sure. Interesting.

The LDA is from a Spearco kit. The intake manifold is from a Fox or a Audi 4000, I have one on my Rabbit. Bigger, longer runners.

audi manifold at that... 5th injector no fit there on a mk1.. but turbo points wrong way to work on a audi/dasher..

i would guess its a type of BOV/diverter valve or overboost protection..

Oh, this is one of those P.O.S. turbo kits. I've never seen one that looked right.

I'd guess bpv (bypass valve) as well although welding on the manifold seems like a lot of work and weird placement for one. There are usually easier ways to plumb them.

This rig is mine, and I can finally post here.  At the time of the original post by burn_your_money, he was helping me out at the vortex page and this site was not accepting new members.  Anyhoozle, many repairs have been done to this truck in the intervening years, and I've just gotten it back from a major overhaul.
A few problems remain, including a fuel leak where that (LDA? per previous response...not sure what it is) attaches to the top right side of the injector pump.  The leak is either where the lda and its elbow fitting attach to the pump, or where the lda attaches to its fitting.

You can see the spot in question...it appears to have been JB Welded right there, or somesuch, at some point, perhaps to attempt resolution of this leak.  In any case, I need to figure out how to make it quit leaking though more JB Weld does not sound like a solution.  Suggestions and additional questions mighty welcome.  Local enthusiasts in Oregon, who could go for a good beer, also extremely welcome.

Rockhorse,   I spent some summers long ago in Paisley working for the FS.  Crazy place to live out in the desert. 

Question, is that pipe/tube threaded on either end?  I would think with the way our diesel engines shake at times that JB Weld would not hold well especially against a fuel like diesel.  My thought is that if it is threaded then possibly you could upsize the thread or re tap and insert a bushing.

Not a lot of room there but can you clamp a bracket on it if you did redo some epoxy on it?

May be just go ahead and swap out the top of a pump if you have a spare available.  Some otherwise good threads could do the trick and stop the leak with a new copper washer?

That's the first one I've seen like mine, which is black & leaks just a tiny bit of fuel at the point where the bottom elbow joins with the fuel adjustment screw area on the IP lid. I'm thinking that the female threads inside may be tweaked, but haven't removed it yet.
I didn't find any detail on its specific functions or adjustment, but the truck runs great & since I don't know a lot about it, I want to be very careful about taking it apart, lest I break it and disable my daily driver.
I don't have another pump to cannibalize for the top. Has anyone got a spare lid and/or one of these Spearco(?) fuel return/boost vacuum aneroids laying around with a good set of threads?
The JB Weld reinforcement was tried with a few strategic tiewraps bracing that repair. It has ALMOST solved the problem, but I'm not yet satisfied, as a very tiny leak is still present.  Dramatic reduction though.
Can anyone tell me more about this part? Is it a Spearco?  Should I find a part# on it somewhere? What is it called, how does it work, can it be replaced, & if not, how might I repair it? Is there a o-ring or copper washer right there that could have dissolved or could a diaphragm inside be torn? Can just the elbow be replaced or rethreaded, if that's the problem?
My rig is a 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup with an engine swap from a (I think) NA 1983-ish Jetta or Golf, which has (I think) been converted to a TD.  This was my late father's car and after sinking a bunch of time & money in it, it runs pretty good.  Zippy. 
It has this (Spearco?) spaceship device on the IP & a tiny Holset turbo whose part number tag is missing. I'm trying to figure out many little things about it, among them, this leak.

Also, any of you who happen to be in Oregon, might as well ask, when are you coming to Fort Rock?  =)
I will buy you a beer & you can scratch your head with me over this fun setup and help me figure out the best day for a VW Diesel Rally.

i think your easiest solution would be to swap to a good but used 1.6td pump, dont forget that the injector lines are different as well
