VNT-17 on ALH
« on: August 03, 2011, 05:13:55 pm »
Time for some more boost, but here's my major question, the turbo is from a passat B5.5 tdi and my car is a 99.5 ALH TDI,

What do I need to install it? I know I need a new MAP And a new tune but for hardware like DP oil lines and exhaust manifold?

It won't fit. You don't want that setup. (Jedi mind tricks)  ;D

Your turbo in short words,  is a one piece. The turbo from a Passat in short words, is a two piece setup. Plus the location would be different too. You can get a VNT17 for an ALH Golf/Jetta that would be a direct bolt on.

But if you have the Passat setup and decided not to use it, hit me up. I'm looking for one.  ;D. For real.

I was thinking Malone said to use a 2256 or 2360 or 2056 . Look on his site you will find whatever one it was. I guess it has all of the 17/22 hybrid benefits but none of the downsides that they have. Plus you may end up wanting more when you are done with it now

It won't fit.

You're correct it's not a bolt on but you're incorrect stating it won't fit.  Check the tdiclub.  A number of folks are running them.  You'll need the AFN exhaust manifold if you want to clear the rear mount and I believe it might need to be re-clocked.  But these are being run on Mk III and IV platforms.  It's not as easy, no doubt, as the VNT17A but it can be made to work.

Do yourself a favor and sell it and buy a mk4 VNT-17

You will need a custom oil feed, custom oil return, custom turbo inlet pipe, custom downpipe and custom turbo outlet. Oh and BTW the VNT 17 from the passat is not much bigger than the stock VNT-15 that came on the ALH.

I have one of the Passat VNT-17s on my TDI Corrado so I've become fairly familiar with the GT1749VA (passat TDI turbo)

I haven;t gotten it yet, I was looking at it, but I'm going to hold off and get a new GT2260 this winter I hope  ;D

good call, if doing all the custom work you might as well end up with the power
