Forcing air into my 1.6 NA then going into a MK3
« on: August 01, 2011, 05:02:32 pm »
Now, I am sick and tired of the gasser in my car. TDI's are expensive so I am going to regasket the extra '87 1.6NA I got with my old MK2... Possibly rebuild the IP if needed.

Now my questions to you all.

Has ANYONE supercharged their 1.6NA? I have a M62 I was wanting to put on my 2.0 ABA but I miss my diesels. The M62 is ready to go, just needs an engine.

Will any 8v (1.7, 1.8, 2.0 ABA) exhaust manifold fit in case the S/C doesn't work? I tried searching but nothing concrete... Looks like the TDI's fit...?

Any intake manifolds worth looking for?

And lastly, the clutch. I have a AOP that will be going in so no worries on input and CV flanges (switching them up to the ABA's flanges). What clutch would be recommended for the setup?

Thanks! Hopefully this will be a build thread...

I successfully supercharged a 1.6 N/A with a G60 charger.
it worked really well, until the charger popped.

I bought and planned on installing an M62 on it but plans changed, and I now have it installed on a 1.8 isuzu diesel.

wen I was going to install the M62 on a VW, my plan was to weld a plate on an N/A intake manifold(with holes for the charger inlet) and mounting the charger directly on the intake.

I was going to use a header(which I still have, and no use for)

any questions don't hesitate to ask me.

I have an 8V G60 exhaust manifold on my 1.6 n/a.  Bolts right up,  wouldn't n/a without it!
I can't help you on downpipe fitment, sorry.

Trucken, how was the EGTs with the G60? And how did you route the belt? Serpetine?

I know the 1.8s fit but what about ABA?

Thanks!

any 8 valve exhaust mani will fit.

the belt was a serpentine, and I never got it to work quite right.
the belt route was way to crazy and it was always slipping, and because the belt also ran everything else, the car was always having issues(not spinning the water pump properly, or the alternator, etc..)

I decided this time to leave the stock accessory belt, and add a serp belt pulley for the charger outside of it.
that way when the charger shreds a belt I can still drive home.

search for "more supercharger talk" and you will see my escapades with the supercharged VW, and see my thread in the "non vw diesel" section about my diesel isuzu i-mark for info on the supercharger setup I am running now.

as for EGT, it can be crazy high, or not depending how much boost and fuel run.
