I've also have one of the older 6A boxes. Been on the Audi 5K TQ for a long time, at 18 lbs of boost it punches that spark in there quite well. I noticed improvement. The car felt snappier, accelerated better over the stock set up.
Do you have MSD wires? They had the lowest resistance of all I tested.
Also check into copper plugs, they transmit  the largest spark out put over platinum, iridium, etc. There're just not designed to last very long over the other types. But our plugs are very easy to replace!  8)

if i have to run a set of MSD wires, then im not even gonna worry about it.. i dont wanna spend an arm n a leg on wires..

ok, so everything ive read soo far, just says that there COULD be some electromagnetic interference with some ECUs, radios, and other electrical systems on your car..

there are also lots of people running MSD ignitions on VWs, and other types of vehicles with solid core wires, without ANY problems..

im gonna take a chance, and see what i come up with..

i just installed a msd 6AL on an 81 toyota corolla wagon about a week ago, his mileage improved, and power increased, but toyotas have suppression core cables factory..

anyone know if they made suppression core wires for a VW? or if you can get a set for some other car that will work on a VW?

I don't think it is the solid core that is the problem. I think it is the lack of RF suppression in the solid core wires. I haven't bought a set of plug wires for anything fancy in over 10 years so they may have solid core RF wires out by now.
I know any plug wire should transmit a spark for you. It couldn't possibly alter timing a degree so it should be good.

Years ago at the Carlisle car show I saw a kit to suppress the EMI from solid core wires..  This particular kit probably pre dated me by 20 years but the thought behind it may have some merit.. The advertising on the package stressed that this kit would eliminate the noise from your radio (AM only back then remember) on your performance vehicle...

Basically it was the braided stainless sheath like they use on fuel lines and high end brake hoses..  Since that stuff will work kinda like a Chinese finger trap the idea was to slip it over the wires and stretch it out tight..  Had nifty little clamps for the ends to hold it in place.. Then there were metal wire retainers that clamped tightly to the wires to hold them neatly in place..  The retainers had a ground cable coming off them that was to be connected to a good ground..

Granted a 1950's/60's ignition didn't have near the fire of say a MSD setup, but that AM radio would pick up every little bit of interference too..  It's pretty much a similar principle as used to day to shield wiring for data buses and crank/cam sensors..  Although the modern counterpart is shielding the EMI from getting into the wiring, not keeping it from escaping the wires..  Might be interesting to see if such an idea would work..

What VW are you putting this on??

this was a pointless thread (for me anyways) the MSD box is dead..

it worked a year ago..

Too bad. But better than taking the time to install and it dying on you.
