Pulled speedo cable too hard?
« on: June 25, 2005, 09:29:42 am »
Well during my tranny swap I pulled the speedo cable a bit too hard from the firewall and it appears to have pulled it out of the cluster.  How much pain am I in for?  I heard these dashes can be a real @!#(* to get off!  :-/  BTW, 91 Jetta Diesel.

All you need is a tub of vasaline and a philips screwdriver.    Undo the lower cover of your dash (storage tray or knee bar) and reach up there to push the cap back onto the speedo.  It's pretty easy as I accidently did the same thing to my brothers car.

Sweet, thanks for the tip!  I was reading up on how to undo the whole dash to remove the cluster and it looked to be quite the PITA...glad I can avoid that :-)

i just did mine this morning (i know the post is old ..but might help some one) i tryed and tryed to put the cable back on the speedo by only removing the kick panell ...hands would not fit...was about to give up when i spotted my spark plug wire puller on my tool box...thought what the hell no ones looking...lol it hooked over the cable and came up tight against the fitting...and snaped it in place...i could even see what i was doing! took 2 minutes with that thing lol
